In Jayme’s guestroom, walls are
white, but pale green-and-
lavender bed linens and orange
geometric accent pillows bring
color to the room. Metallic
footstools, a seashell chandelier,
and elegant pagoda lamp all add
a form al touch but are balanced
by the yard-sale sideboard and
souvenir wooden rabbit (used as
a hammer to pin up reproduction
seaweed prints).

a box of quartz,” Jayme says. “Natural items have natural beauty.” Personal
accessories—a mix of family treasures, gifts from friends, and a few picks from
her store—enliven the subdued, neutral backdrop.
Now that Jayme’s put her mark on this house, she’s given up on the idea of saving
to buy her own home. She spends most of her time at her shop, she can bike into the
historic center of town for brunches and dinners, and when she is at home, she can
truly relax or entertain friends. “I’m in the store six or seven days a week, so it’s
nice to come back and not feel daunted by upkeep and just be able to enjoy the
space,” she says. For now, at least, the headaches of ownership are something she’s
willing to live without “I love that when something breaks,” she says, “I get to call
someone else.”
